Near the border of Zacatecas & Durango on the Sierra Papanton in Central Mexico is where Howard Scott Gentry first described this variety, as well as collected Agave parryi-truncata 'Huntington.' These plants are found growing in oak, pine, & juniper forest at about 8000' and are the Southernmost population of the parryi complex- that reaches well into Arizona, New Mexico, extreme Western Texas, Chihuahua & Durango. The varieties are weakly differentiated as with the case with var. truncata, which is seperated out by smaller leaves 'with acute to truncate apex. Weakly differentiated or not, the nicest plants in the parryi complex I have found were within this population. Plants for sale are seed grown in 5" pots.
