Agave margaritae

The small compact Agave margaritae occurs on Isla Margarita and Isla Magdalena off the southern Pacific coast of Baja California. The plants growing on the more southerly island of Margarita are generally blue to gray-blue with some green plants in the mix. The further north you go, the more green the plants become until on the northern end the population tend to be mostly green. In fact, many of these plants can at least superficially appear to have A. shawii influences. Agave margaritae is a gorgeous and highly variable plant that is uncommon in the trade. Plants do well in the garden in Southern California and are suitable for pot culture and smaller garden beds.
